Are you looking to achieve a natural, sun-kissed glow without the harmful effects of UV rays? Look no further! At Lashing Out Studio, we offer a fantastic spray tan service that will leave you with a radiant and flawless complexion. However, the key to achieving the perfect spray tan lies in the preparation. In this blog, we will share our expert tips on how to prep perfectly for your spray tan, ensuring that you get the most out of your tanning experience.

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

The first step in preparing for a flawless spray tan is to exfoliate your skin thoroughly. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells and any dry patches, creating a smooth canvas for the tanning solution to adhere to. Pay extra attention to rough areas such as knees, elbows, ankles, and heels. Use either an exfoliating mit, a rough loofah, a dry brush or a rougher textured towel to exfoliate the skin, and make sure to do this at least 24 hours before your spray tan appointment. Do not use sugar scrubs or a product that has a gritty texture to it considering the majority of those products contain an oily base, which will create a barrier on your skin preventing the spray tan from settling properly.

Shave or Wax

Shaving and/or waxing should happen before your spray tan session! Shaving or waxing after your spray tan can lead to an uneven tan and may cause the color to fade faster. Aim to shave or wax at least 24 hours prior to your appointment to allow your skin to calm down and close its pores.

Avoid Using Lotions, Deodorants and Oils

On the day of your spray tan appointment, it’s best to avoid using any lotions, Deodorants, oils, or moisturizers on your skin. These products can create a barrier and prevent the tanning solution from fully absorbing into your skin, resulting in an uneven tan. If you need to moisturize, do so the night before your appointment and choose a water-based product. If you have a long day at work and need to apply deodorant, we do have water-based wipes for you to use so you can remove deodorant before your spray.

Opt for Loose, Dark-Colored Clothing

After your spray tan, it’s essential to wear loose-fitting, dark-colored clothing. Tight clothing can rub against your skin and cause the tan to rub off prematurely. Dark-colored clothing will also help conceal any residual color transfer that may occur. Avoid wearing tight bras or sports bras immediately after your tan to prevent strap marks.

Remove Makeup and Jewelry

To ensure an even application, make sure to remove all makeup, and jewelry before your spray tan session. These can act as barriers and affect the color development. You can always reapply makeup and jewelry after your tan has fully set. If you have a long day of work, and MUST wear some makeup, we do have facial cleansers for you to use before your spray.

Comfortable and Open Footwear

As the tanning solution takes some time to dry, it’s vital to wear suitable footwear after your appointment. Avoid closed shoes, as they may rub against your skin and potentially cause the tan to wear off in those areas. Instead, opt for flip-flops or loose sandals to keep your feet comfortable and the tan intact.

Preparing for a spray tan is just as crucial as the tanning process itself. By following these important tips, you can ensure that your spray tan turns out flawlessly and lasts longer.
